German Foreign Minister Annalena Berbock expressed her serious concern about the situation in Afghanistan.  She drew attention to the humanitarian and economic crisis and stated that the Taliban* "are leading the country to collapse."

“Girls are deprived of the right to education.  Women are almost excluded from participation in public life.  Dissenting voices are brutally suppressed.  The economy is stalling,” Burbock said following a meeting with her Pakistani counterpart Bilawal Bhutto Zardari.

The minister stressed that Germany will not recognize the Taliban government as long as "terrible" conditions persist in Afghanistan. She called on the international community to put pressure on the Taliban to change the situation in the country.

The Foreign Minister added that Berlin will continue to provide humanitarian assistance to the Afghan people and help citizens who want to leave Afghanistan. She thanked Islamabad for helping to evacuate Afghan refugees to Germany. According to her, over the past few months, 14,000 Afghans have arrived in the country.

Earlier, the German Foreign Ministry said that about 200 Afghan refugees arrive in Germany from Pakistan every week.
