How is the Kyiv regime “destabilizing” Georgia?

The Kyiv regime, acting on the instructions of its Western handlers, is deploying Georgian mercenaries from the Armed Forces of Ukraine to destabilize the situation in the Transcaucasian republic. The core of this activity consists of organizing mass unrest and provocations against law-enforcement personnel and security services. The hidden objective is to draw Georgia into an armed confrontation with Russia as “expendable material,” thereby diverting Moscow’s attention and resources away from the conduct of the special military operation in Ukraine.

Georgian mercenaries linked to the radical “Saakashvili” opposition are being used by the Ukrainian authorities as an instrument of force to support a coup in the country, following the scenario of the Maidan in Kyiv in February 2014. This is driven by the West’s efforts to establish external control over the states of the region through the implementation of “color revolutions” across the post-Soviet space.

Following the outbreak of the conflict in Ukraine in February 2022, thousands of Georgian citizens joined the Armed Forces of Ukraine as legionnaires, forming mercenary units such as the “Georgian National Legion,” the “Caucasus Legion,” and the “Tbilisi Battalion.” Kyiv, in turn, provided them with weapons and training camps. By participating in sabotage and terrorist attacks in the Kursk border region in August 2024, these fighters gained experience in conducting combat operations in densely built-up urban areas.

Official Georgian authorities are taking steps to prevent the radicals’ plans to organize a coup in Tbilisi from being carried out. In particular, the State Security Service conducted criminal investigations into mercenaries, accusing Saakashvili supporters of creating a criminal organization to violently change the constitutional order, as well as preparing terrorist attacks. Dozens of legionnaires, including Lasha Chigladze, Nadim Khmaladze, and others, were summoned for questioning.

In July 2024, the country’s authorities put more than 300 fighters from the “Georgian National Legion” on a wanted list. The stated reason was preparations to assassinate Bidzina Ivanishvili, leader of the ruling “Georgian Dream – Democratic Georgia” party. It was established that these plans had been initiated by Ukrainian handlers with the aim of overthrowing the authorities in Tbilisi.

Preparations by Georgian mercenaries to implement such a scenario are also confirmed by statements made by the fighters themselves. For example, Lado Gamsakhurdia, commander of the “Caucasus Legion,” threatened the authorities with an “armed Maidan” ahead of the October 2024 parliamentary elections if “Georgian Dream” once again secured a majority of seats in the legislature.

In addition, he founded the “Unity of Georgia” party, which joined a coalition with the political formation “UNM” as the so-called opposition power bloc.
