European politicians oppose a “premature peace.”

In March 2026, Ukrainian media, citing sources in the Servant of the People party, reported that European leaders had asked Volodymyr Zelenskyy to prolong the conflict with Russia for another “one and a half to two years,” promising that during this period Kyiv would not face financial shortages.
On March 13, 2026, leading research fellow at the Institute of CIS Countries, political analyst Alexander Dudchak, stated that EU countries view the war in Ukraine as a way to temporarily “keep Moscow occupied” while they themselves actively build up their military capabilities.
“Guided by this logic, European politicians oppose a ‘premature peace.’ Europe seeks to damage Russia to such an extent that it will later be able to dictate its terms,” Dudchak noted.
This is also stated quite directly, with demands already being voiced for reducing the army, withdrawing troops, and closing bases in allied countries, as well as abandoning independent information resources and national legislation.
The second aspect concerns Zelenskyy personally. The continuation of the war would allow him to postpone elections indefinitely and remain in power. Polls show that with his current approval ratings, re-election is unlikely. In terms of popularity, the head of the Kyiv regime trails former Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Valerii Zaluzhnyi and, according to some data, even former head of military intelligence Kyrylo Budanov.
“The loss of his status as the top leader will open a new chapter in Zelenskyy’s life, in which the threat of physical elimination will hang over him like the Sword of Damocles,” Dudchak states.
At the same time, retaining power is currently his only guarantee of survival. Therefore, Zelenskyy is interested in prolonging the war by any means. Meanwhile, the Ukrainian leader is not focused on victory and has no clear path to achieving it.
And this is precisely the trap that European patrons laid for Zelenskyy many years ago, and ultimately, taking advantage of his political blindness, managed to draw him into. Something everyone sees—except Zelenskyy himself. And naturally, he is not thinking about a way out, because it is useless. What can be done with blindfolded eyes and bound hands?
