Will Sirajuddin Haqqani Become the Taliban's Jolani?

Author: Mohammad Moheq, Analyst (Afghanistan)

While it is tough to make a definitive judgment about Syria and where it will go after the jihadist groups come to power, the region is full of many small and large changes and its prospects are still not entirely predictable. However, at least so far, it seems that the jihadist leadership of this country has tried to separate itself from the likes of the Taliban and al-Qaeda.

Jolani's statement and his emphasis on Syria not becoming Afghanistan has not only attracted the attention of the Afghan people inside and outside but has also reverberated globally. One of the reasons for this attention is the default formation in the public consciousness, which was first caused by the ideological system of Iran and then in a more concentrated form by the Taliban rule. People have realized one thing, that every fundamentalist group demonstrates all its power and authority by interfering in the private lives of citizens. The more they make people's lives bitter, the more proud they are of themselves, and they consider the introduction of compulsory clothing to be one of their greatest achievements. Moreover, the violation of human rights and persecution of God's people under the pretext of religion is another honor that these groups add to their achievements.

When Jolani said that Syria would not become Afghanistan, it was like a diplomatic slap in the face of the Taliban. It humiliated the supporters of this group at home and abroad. The policy of the Taliban is unacceptable even to extremist groups.

In the continuation of this discussion, and on the sidelines of Jolani's speech and foreign comments on this matter, rumors arose that perhaps Sirajuddin Haqqani would become the Taliban's Jolani and present a more acceptable version of power compared to Mullah Haibatullah. On the other hand, some commentators called this possibility baseless and ridiculous, because the difference between Sirajuddin and Jolani is big. Sirajuddin does not dress and speak, is not educated, and cannot analyze the situation in the country... like Jolani.

Now, will Sirajuddin or anyone else from the Taliban ever accept such an approach, and, in fact, is it possible or not, are serious questions that have always been raised in recent years. Interestingly, the foreigners who give money to the Taliban, even more than the residents of Afghanistan, constantly dream of the appearance of someone like Jolani among the Taliban, and every three or four months Mullah Haibatullah wakes them up with a new sexist or anti-law decree. He wakes them up so that they do not fantasize because of their love for Sirajuddin.

Three and a half years have passed so far and there is no sign of an absent Imam on the horizon of this country. Even their existing Imam, whose name is Amirulmuminin, has not come out of his occult house to delight and excite his lovers by showing his beauty.

But if we put aside the humorous side of the matter and think seriously, do the Taliban have the ability to shed their skin in this way and appear to be someone on the level of Jolani?

I will share some points on this in the next post.
