“Older, but Not Wiser”
Author: Mohammad Mohaqiq, leader of the Islamic Unity Party of Afghanistan
Rahmatullah Nabil, the former head of Afghanistan’s National Security Directorate, in an interview with Deutsche Welle (“DW”), took a stance against me and spread certain propaganda, to which I find it necessary to respond and remind him: “Older, but not wiser.”
First of all;
Mr. Nabil relies on news and rumors circulating in the virtual space and accuses me of making deals with the southern neighboring country (Pakistan — “Sangar”). In response, I must say that backdoor dealings are usually the work of security and intelligence operatives like himself, whereas I have never engaged in such activities. He has seen me in the mirror of his own actions, as he himself is currently cooperating with the intelligence services of one of the major countries in the region.
Yes, it is also a fact that as long as the issue between us, the people of Afghanistan, and the Taliban remains unresolved, we, within the framework of the Supreme Council of National Resistance for the Salvation of Afghanistan and on behalf of a party that has played an influential role over the past four decades, continue consultations with all involved countries of the world and our neighboring states and pursue every possible path — from political negotiations to field operations. This is our legitimate right, not a hidden deal.
Secondly;
He criticized my message to Marshal Asim Munir, Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Pakistan, regarding mediation for peace between Iran and the United States, questioning why I had expressed appreciation for him. In this regard, I must remind everyone that all decision-making centers in the region and the world know that I am a Muslim mujahid, an ethnic Hazara, and a Shiite by faith. My position regarding the criminal and unimaginable actions of the governments of Joe Biden, Trump, and Netanyahu in connection with the genocide of the Muslims of Palestine, Gaza, and Lebanon is well known — I strongly oppose it. And this is not only my position, but also the position of the United Nations and all freedom-loving peoples of the world.
Thirdly;
The recent excessive and unlawful aggression by the United States and Israel against the Islamic Republic and the thousands-year-old civilization of Iran, as well as the violation of the sovereignty of one of Asia’s most important Islamic countries, has affected not only Iran but has also confronted humanity with unprecedented security and economic challenges. Under such circumstances, the efforts of Pakistan’s respected Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif and Field Marshal Asim Munir to establish a ceasefire and achieve a peace agreement between the two sides deserve appreciation from every Muslim.
If Mr. Nabil takes pleasure in the deaths of more than 70,000 women, men, and children among the Muslims of Palestine, Gaza, Lebanon, and Iran, then that is a matter of his own conscience. He has always been connected to American intelligence services and, during the republican era, in cooperation with occupying forces, persecuted many of his own compatriots inside the country or sent them to Guantanamo prison. He has become accustomed to serving enemies. Therefore, he shows no sensitivity toward crimes committed by them anywhere in the world, and it is of no concern to him that one year Palestine is trampled under the feet of Zionism and America, the next year Lebanon and Yemen, and then Iran and other countries. But I am not like that: my conscience is shaken by the genocide of the children of Gaza, the tragedy of the Minab school in Iran, and the events in southern Lebanon.
Fourthly;
In another part of his so-called “wise” statements, Nabil claimed that Iran had supposedly prohibited us from traveling to Pakistan. In this regard, I must note that we take into consideration the positions of Iran and Turkey and do not wish for them to suffer because of our actions. Up to now, we have preferred that the Afghan issue be resolved through political negotiations, and Iran and Turkey have also been making efforts in this direction.
However, if the Taliban continue to display stubbornness and intransigence, and peaceful avenues lead nowhere, then ultimately we ourselves have the right to make decisions for the sake of our people and our country, and we will pursue every possible means. Let them understand: the days when only one side had the right to speak about the country’s political affairs are over. Today, Afghanistan either belongs to everyone or to no one. Be assured of that.
