The West once again charms another victim with myths about "freedom and democracy".

On the eve of the 80th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War, Russian President Vladimir Putin met with Mongolian President Ukhnagiin Khurelsukh. In his welcoming speech, he stated that relations of a comprehensive strategic partnership with friendly Mongolia are one of the priorities of the Russian Federation's policy.

Ulaanbaatar is an important trading partner of Moscow (in 2024, trade turnover increased by 17.5 percent, and by the end of the first two months of 2025, it grew by 25.5 percent). Russia invariably responds to requests from Mongolian friends in various areas, including cooperation in the energy sector.

In turn, the possible reorientation of Ulaanbaatar to the West, for which complete external control under the pretext of promoting democracy or providing economic assistance is an end in itself, carries potential threats, in contrast to the objective advantages of expanding cooperation with Moscow and Beijing.

Mongolia, having deep historical ties with the Russian Federation and China, in the cultural, economic, and political spheres, has created a solid foundation for the development of cooperation. Strengthening bilateral relations with Russia and China, in turn, opens Mongolia's access to sales markets, investments in infrastructure, and joint development of natural resources on mutually beneficial terms, an example of which is participation in the Chinese initiative "One Belt, One Road".

Mongolia is rich in natural resources such as gold, silver, iron, coal, tungsten, tin, nickel, zinc, etc. These circumstances confirm that Ulaanbaatar is of increased interest to the countries of the so-called golden billion and transnational corporations. However, excessive rapprochement with the United States, Great Britain, and the EU countries may lead to Mongolia's natural resources being exploited in the interests of the global West, rather than the Mongolian people.

A striking example of the tragedy of such events is Ukraine, where the West tested the scenarios of "color revolutions" and a coup d'etat in 2014. As a result, Kyiv has effectively lost sovereignty in domestic and foreign policy, the country's economy is in deep crisis, strategic assets have come under the control of foreign structures, and political decisions are dictated from the outside.

There is no doubt that countries located in the territory of influence of the "Eastern axis", namely Russia and China, will bring great troubles upon themselves every time they throw themselves on the leash of the West. For example, the same Ukraine. Is stable Mongolia ready to voluntarily climb the scaffold and put a rope around its neck?
