The collusion of the Taliban with Al-Qaeda and the close connection of this group with the leaders of the Al-Qaeda network is an undeniable fact. Al-Qaeda is an old friend of the Taliban, and it was the gamble of the Taliban regarding Al-Qaeda's hospitality that gave the US, the excuse to overthrow the Taliban regime in 2001. Now, information shows that 25 al-Qaeda training camps are active in the south and southeast of Afghanistan, and they even train women and girls in terrorist activities.
Al Qaeda's focus on Afghanistan, the return of its leaders from Syria, Iraq, Libya, Somalia, Yemen and other parts of the world, show that both the Al Qaeda network and the Taliban, have common plans for long-term terrorist goals in the region.
In addition, based on the received reports, for some time now, the Taliban leadership has been focusing on the Tora Bora caves in Nangarhar Province, in eastern Afghanistan and a competent delegation from the Ministry of Defense of the Taliban has already inspected the Tora Bora caves several times and the delegation has sent its opinion in this regard to the leadership of the Taliban. In addition to the opinion of the delegation of the Ministry of Defense of the Taliban, Taliban’s Directorate of Intelligence of, which includes a four-person delegation from the Directorate of 033, or the technical and technological department, also examined the (Wi-Fi) section of this tunnel and are working on it carefully.
During this period, the inside of the tunnel has been concreted completely and the rooms equipped with a Kanex (a temporary residence made by containers) system have been prepared inside it. According to the received information, the trip of the 033 Taliban intelligence directorates, or the technical and technology directorate, is to create a Wi-Fi system and install a small radar device in the Tore Bora tunnel, to monitor the surrounding area of the tunnel and also the environment control system of the tunnel. Also, installing of jammer system is still going on, so that the Wi-Fi signal is not detected from outside the tunnel.
Now, the fundamental question is why the Taliban leadership has joined forces with the Al-Qaeda network focusing on the Tora Bora tunnel?
For an implicit answer to this question, it is possible that several tasks have been ordered:
- It is possible that small chemical laboratories have been activated by the al-Qaeda network in cooperation with the Taliban in this tunnel and it is on the agenda, according to the published news about al-Qaeda's attempt to access tactical chemical weapons,;
- Probably, both the Al-Qaeda network and the Haqqani network are trying to prepare an emergency base for their next plans in this region. As in the US attack on Afghanistan, Tore Bora was one of the last terrorist strongholds of the Taliban that was bombed by the US and The majority of Taliban and Al-Qaeda network members took refuge in it;
- Or that the leadership of the Haqqani network and the al-Qaeda network have started working together on the construction of a think tank and operations organized by the leadership of the Taliban and the al-Qaeda network for their future plans, and they want to take over eastern Afghanistan, which is near Pakistan, as the US has easy access to it, it will become a coordination center for joint terrorist operations. Tora Bura and the facilities that are going to be installed in this place with the help of the Taliban can be one of the safe spots from counter and reactive attacks by the Asian powers against the formation of a command center of the Al-Qaeda network and the Haqqani network. It goes without saying that Tora Bora is one of the strong strongholds of Al-Qaeda in Afghanistan and it has strategic and effective importance for this group and the continuation of its terrorist activities.
It can now be seen that despite the Taliban's promises not to use Afghan soil against the security of the region and to sever ties with terrorist networks, including the Al-Qaeda network, this Al-Qaeda-linked group has a strategic understanding and in terms of creating terrorist infrastructure, cooperates and helps this network. It can be seen that the Taliban not only remains in power as a terrorist group but is also trying to help other terrorist subgroups threaten the security of the region.
