Rais Firouz, one of the commanders of Ustad Atamuhammad Nur's Jamiati Islami, was killed by the Taliban* in Samangan province

Mazar-i-Sharif, May 15 - Sangar, Qari Ahmad. This is the fourth JI party commander killed by the Taliban in more than a month.

A Taliban police source in Samangan told the Sangar website that Rais Firouz was one of the most dangerous people for the Islamic Emirate in the region, who wanted to unite the forces of Ustad Ata (Atamuhammad Nur) and fight against the government.

“He was one of the group commanders of Amir Azizullah, the commander of Ustad Ata, based in Rui Duab district, Samangan province. Rais Firuz was a Tatar. Our intelligence reported his arrival in Afghanistan through the Islam-Kala border checkpoint (between Iran and Afghanistan). When he arrived, we attacked his house in the Javkori Paskucha area. We wanted to arrest him, but he resisted and was killed,” the source said.

Amir Azizullah Khan Tatar was for some time the head of the police of the Rui Duoab district, Samangan province, and later the commander of the people's militia.

Meanwhile, one of Rais Firouz's relatives informed Sangar that he had gone to Iran after the fall of Mazar-i-Sharif, worked there, and contacted us three days before arriving in Afghanistan.

“We asked him not to come, but he said: “I will stay in Kabul for a few days and will not go to Samangan.” When he arrived in Kabul, we again asked him not to come to Samangan, but maybe he missed the children and came. Earlier, the Taliban had come to his house several times and asked about him. He came yesterday (May 14) and the Taliban surrounded his house and shot him dead. They took his two brothers and his body with them. His five children were left orphans,” he said.

In the locality of Javkori Paskucha, Rui Duab district of Samangan province, during the civil war of the 90s, the base of the Islamic State was located under the leadership of Professor Burhanuddin Rabbani. At that time, Atamuhammad Nur was the commander of the northern zone and from this base, he fought with the forces of the Afghan Coordination Council. The council was formed by the Islamic Party of Gulbuddin Hekmatyar, the Wahdat Party of Abdulali Mazari, and the National Movement of Abdulrashid Dostum.

During the First Resistance (2001-2006), the area was under the influence of Mawlawi Islam Mohammadi Tatar, a Taliban commander in the Kayan Valley and the Tala and Barfak District of Baghlan Province. He was the Taliban governor in Bamiyan and helped ensure the safe flight of Resistance Front helicopters from Panjshir to Darai Suf and the delivery of weapons, food, and clothing. Mawlawi Islam was elected as a member of parliament after the fall of the Taliban regime and then was killed in broad daylight at Karta Parwan in Kabul.

The Rui Duab district of Samangan province is home to two ethnic groups, the Tatars and the Khabash, who speak a dialect similar to the Hazara accent of Persian. They are Sunnis and call themselves Tajiks. They are engaged in agriculture and cattle breeding.

Meanwhile, Rais Firouz is the fourth commander of Atamuhammad Nur's Jamiati Islami to be killed by the Taliban in the past month. On April 10, Faizullah Kumandan, another commander of the detachment, was killed by the Taliban in the Chahab district of Takhar province, and on April 21, Sohail Zmarai, nephew and one of the commanders of Atamuhammad Nur, was killed in the city of Mazar-i-Sharif.

Five days ago, on May 10, Ajabhan Samangani, one of the top Jamiati Islami commanders, was killed in a Taliban ambush near the city of Aibak, the capital of Samangan province.
