Abdulbasir Andarabi, a key commander, and five other Freedom Front of Afghanistan fighters were killed in a long, uneven battle with Taliban forces.
Hindu Kush, April 12 - Sangar, Hasib Sangar. The Freedom Front (Jabhae Azadi) has not officially confirmed the death of Akmal Amir, another of its key commanders.
The Freedom Front said in a statement that commander Basir Andarabi and his comrades Fahim Salangi, Burhanuddin Andarabi, Kurbanali Bamiani, Saboor Faryabi, and Hussein Samangani were martyred in the last two days of fighting with the Taliban in South Salang.
“A large number of our fighters have reached safe areas, but at present there is no exact information about the fate of some of them, including General Akmal Amir,” the Freedom Front said in a statement.
Hamid Khorasani, commander of the Panjshir Taliban, now head of the administration of Ahmedabad district, Paktia province, was the first to report that General Akmal Amir and seven of his comrades had been killed. So far, photographs of the bodies of five Freedom Front fighters, including Commander Abdulbasir Andarabi, have been published and identified, but there is no reliable evidence of the death of Commander Amir.
Mohammad Haris Ajmal, Akmal Amir's brother, also told Sangar sources that his brother is alive, but there is no information on his whereabouts.
“At around 7:00 pm, the Taliban surrounded our sister's house in the Kuhistan district of Kapisa province and interrogated her,” he said.
Meanwhile, Abdusattar Husseini, a former member of parliament and one of the leaders of the Freedom Front, told Sangar that a number of photos published by the Taliban, including a photo of Akmal Amir, are fake and have nothing to do with their Front fighters. He did not elaborate on the matter, but said that the martyrdom of the Freedom Front fighters inspired the people of Afghanistan to "holy struggle against the group of ignorance."
Sangar's source, citing the Taliban command in Panjshir, said that Freedom Front fighters were killed in the mountainous area between Shutul districts of Panjshir province, Solang and Jabalussiraj districts of Parwan province, which is connected by a mountain peak and is also known as Jabalussiraj mountain.
“This territory belongs to the Shutul district of the Panjshir province. The resistance camp was located in the area. Last night, April 10, the Taliban attacked their camp from two sides, killing six fighters and capturing six more,” the source said.
According to him, in these battles, three Taliban were killed and another 8 wounded, but the Freedom Front claims that 30 Taliban were killed in these battles.
From the list of killed fighters of the Freedom Front, it is clear that its important core entered Afghanistan to start a war against the Taliban.
One of the commanders of the National Resistance Front of Afghanistan, a childhood friend of Basir Andarabi and is in the Hindu Kush, told Sangar that the commander called him six days ago and said that he had come to Afghanistan from Iran with commander Akmal Amir before Navruz and had just reached the Hindu Kush.
“When I called him this morning, his phone was switched off. When I read from the media that Akmal Amir had been killed, I was heartbroken because they were both together,” he said.
Meanwhile, other sources report that their whereabouts were revealed by an accomplice captured by the Taliban last Thursday evening in Salang.
"The man's name is Nasriddin Salangi, who used to work in the Defense Ministry's Shaheen Corps with Akmal Amir and was arrested a second time by the Taliban on the night of April 6. He gave away the location of his comrades under torture," one of the sources said.
But from the point of view of observers of the situation who spoke with Sangar, this argument is somewhat dubious and it is possible that the leak of information about the whereabouts of the commanders and fighters of the Freedom Front was from more serious sources in the intelligence of the region.
Sangar also received information about the presence of several prominent Freedom Front commanders who had just arrived in Afghanistan from Iran but does not consider it appropriate to publish it. At the same time, the Freedom Front does not confirm the captivity of its fighters.
The Freedom Front of Afghanistan is another anti-Taliban front, which is allegedly commanded by the former commander of the General Staff of the Ministry of Defense of Afghanistan, Mohammad Yassin Zia, but he himself has not yet officially confirmed this.
In the final minutes of this Sangar report being prepared, special sources reported that commander Akmal Amir had been wounded and moved to safety. It was also reported that his health condition is stable.
