Pashtunism took on the guise of Islam, and the Taliban are the same Pashtunists, but only in a turban

The problem of the leadership of the Pashtun Taliban is escalating. Because the internal problem of the Pashtun and non-Pashtun Taliban has begun. The Pashtun Taliban made several attempts on the lives of Mavlawi Salahuddin Ayubi, an Uzbek Taliban commander, and Mawlawi Mahdi, a Hazara Taliban commander, but they survived.

The non-Pashtun Taliban became distrustful of the Pashtun Taliban leadership. So they decided to resist in order to save their lives. They know that by surrendering to the leadership of the Pashtun Taliban, they will accept their death.

Mawlawi Fazel of the Pashtun Taliban went to Faryab to capture Mawlawi Salahuddin. A battle broke out between the Uzbek and Pashtun Taliban, but Ayubi's arrest was unsuccessful. Mavlavi Fazel, feeling threatened in Faryab, returned to Kabul in confusion.

A Pashtun Taliban delegation went to Balkh to have Mawlawi Mahdi surrender to them. He did not give up. In response he said to the Pashtun Taliban delegation, that the Shiite branch of Islam should be as official as in the past, and the Hazaras and Shiites should be present in the government, Hazaras must be appointed by the governor, the chairman of the district, etc., at least in the Hazara regions. These demands of Mawlavi Mehdi are accurate, correct and fair.

The ethnic problem is one of the most fundamental problems of power in Afghanistan. Ethnic Pashtun governments have historically tried to cover up the issue with repressions, but the repression has failed.

When the previous Taliban emirate fell, I was a student at Kabul University. My Uzbek friend told me that the guys are going to General Dostum, let's go with us. At this meeting, Dostum was asked why he stopped cooperating with the government of Dr. Najibullah. General Dostum said that “I had just successfully returned from the war in the south and was sitting next to Dr. Najib when a foreign delegation came to him, and one of its members asked Najib about the ethnic composition of the population of Afghanistan. In response, Najib said that more than 95 percent of the country's population is Pashtun. There are two to three percent of Tajiks in it. The Hazaras and Uzbeks do not even make up one percent. After hearing these words of Dr. Najib, I decided to leave his government.”

I mentioned this for the reason that it doesn't matter if it's a communist government, a liberal republic, an Islamic emirate, etc. Whatever it is, the ethnic problem will be. The leadership of the state was usually in the hands of Pashtun leaders who wanted the government of one ethnic group to dominate others. Thus, the war and the conflict of the ethnic government with other ethnic groups began.

Abdulrahman's war with the Hazaras was an ethnic war. The war between Amanullah and Nadir against Amir Habibullah, the guardian of the religion of the Messenger of God, was an ethnic war between Pashtuns and Tajiks. The war between Mohammadgul Momand and Zahir Shah's uncles in the north against the Uzbeks and Tajiks was an ethnic war. Dr. Najib's war with the Mujahideen was an ethnic war. The Mujahideen War was an ethnic war between Pashtuns, Tajiks, Hazaras and Uzbeks. The current war between the Taliban and its non-Pashtun members is also an ethnic war.

Karzai and Ghani were saying the same thing to foreigners as Dr. Najib. Karzai told the US Secretary of Defense that the problem with our governance is not the Taliban, but the people and the northern front. “Karzai told us that the nationbuilding in Afghanistan should be based on the values of the Pashtun people, because Pashtuns make up more than 80 percent, - the US senator wrote in an American newspaper. - When I arrived in Kabul, I realized that the ethnic and cultural reality is different from what Karzai was saying.”

If we want to achieve a just, inclusive and people's government, we must take into account ethnic reality in governance, and not make a problem from it. We need to turn this reality into opportunities and coexistence. This can be implemented in the federal government. The Pashtun ethnic government cannot completely eradicate Tajiks, Khazars, Uzbeks, and so on. Therefore, it is better to abandon the idea and purpose of ethnic repression.
