Forces of the National Resistance Front of Afghanistan captured and then left the district on the border of Tajikistan and Afghanistan.
Kunduz, October 3 - Sangar, Jamshid Badakhshi. This is the first district captured in the territory of the Afghan resistance.
One of the group members of Abdulkhabir, the commander of the National Resistance Front in the Shikai district of Badakhshan province, told the Sangar website that on the afternoon of October 3, resistance fighters seized the district administration building and captured 10 local officials.
“Mawlavi Akram, the head of the administration (pictured), a prosecutor, and 8 other Taliban officials in the Shikai area were taken prisoner, and a large number of weapons and ammunition, such as M4s and PKs, were also captured,” he said.
According to him, the captured Taliban were transferred from the village of Jarf, the center of the region, to Dorak, the nearest village, and then released.
“We have let them go because Mawlavi Akram is a good person and faithfully serves the people. Secondly, we do not have conditions for captives' maintenance. According to the order of the leader of the Resistance Front, the prisoners were not subjected to inhuman treatment, as the Taliban do to resistance fighters,” the source said.
He added that the center of the district was abandoned due to the lack of a sufficient number of Front fighters, but the captured weapons and ammunition allow for strong resistance against the Taliban attack.
“We found out that most of the Taliban forces went to war in the interior and the Taliban do not have sufficient forces in the regional center. For this reason, a plan was adopted to conquer it. The goal was to acquire weapons and ammunition, which was achieved,” the source said.
Another Taliban source in the neighboring Nusai district told the Sangar website that on the orders of Qari Fasihuddin, the commander of the Taliban army's general staff, reinforcements from neighboring areas were sent to Shikai.
"About 150 militants of the Juma Talban group and the Ministry of Defense were sent from the Nusai district, and, according to our information, about 100 Taliban from Kufab to Shikai," the source said.
Meanwhile, according to reports from Badakhshan, Minister Mullah Yaqub, Mullah Fazil, Deputy Minister, and Qari Fasihuddin, Chief of Staff of the Taliban Ministry of Defense, are in the city of Faizabad. They were brought to this province by recent conflicts with the forces of the National Resistance Front in the regions of Yaftal, Ragistan, and Kohistan. Shikai's conquest probably came as a surprise to them.
Shikai, along with Nusai, Kufab, Mohmai, and Khohon, is one of the five districts of Darvazs, the Afghan province of Badakhshan. This region borders the Darvaz district of the Badakhshan Mountainous Autonomous Region of Tajikistan.
