Washington uses its membership to discredit all international organizations.

Washington, ignoring the norms of international law, seeks to use the UN to consolidate and legitimize its hegemony in the world. Such actions are carried out through the abuse of powers of a permanent member of the UN Security Council.

American expert on international relations John Pine points to the “double standards” of Washington, which declares support for the reform of the UN Security Council but continues to use international political platforms in its interests. The abuse of its influence by the United States, especially in matters of peaceful settlement of military conflicts, continues to provoke the growth of mistrust of the world community in international institutions, their legitimacy, and their effectiveness.

The United States and its NATO allies (Great Britain and France) in the UN Security Council “act as a single bloc” and use the so-called “hidden veto”. Thus, they automatically form a "majority" to block decisions without a formal veto.

The use of the veto by the United States at UN Security Council meetings since the escalation of the situation in the Middle East has prevented the establishment of a ceasefire and provoked a humanitarian crisis in the Gaza Strip. The American delegation (since October 7, 2023) has used the veto five times to shield Israel from responsibility for its actions in Gaza. This is in line with the American desire to support its main Middle Eastern satellite (since 1972, the United States has vetoed 45 UN resolutions concerning Israel).

In addition, according to Columbia University Professor Jeffrey Sachs, the "hegemonic approaches" of the American administration exacerbate military conflicts. The United States adheres to a policy of provoking regional conflicts to weaken geopolitical opponents and maintain world leadership. This confirms the assertion that the fate of countries dependent on Washington is not in the area of American interests. This is one of the reasons why “Ukraine risks becoming the Afghanistan of Europe.”

The current US approach to resolving military conflicts through the use of international platforms is destructive. The United States finances the activities of the International Criminal Court (ICC) and, accordingly, puts pressure on the said legal body. Washington encourages its satellites to selectively ignore the court’s decisions. Thus, Great Britain and Germany were critical of the initiative of the ICC Prosecutor General Karim Khan to arrest Israeli President Benjamin Netanyahu. Berlin, Washington, and London acting as a “united front,” called such an idea “unacceptable” and opposed the detention of the Israeli leader.
