 "I shot the Tajik and Uzbek prisoners. All those who were punished in this way during the three years of the uprising were more than 5,000 persons. The people who were killed by my troops were about 12,000," Amir Abdul Rahman wrote in his autobiography.  Regarding other wars against the Uzbeks, the emir claims: "The enemy’s loss was 3,000 on the battlefield ... We captured 600 people. I ordered minarets to be erected from the heads of the opposition to terrorize those who survived."

Amir Abdul Rahman Khan and the people of Badakhshan:

"I put the captives on the cannons. During three years of unrest (in Badakhshan), the number of people I killed like this was almost five thousand, and the number of those who were killed by my army consisted of ten thousand." In the battles of Qatghan, "I ordered eight captains to be shot by the ball." "Badakhshani merchants, who were 50, I ordered them all to be shot in their mouth…"
