Mirwais Porandeh, a commander of the National Resistance Front of Afghanistan, was killed in a battle with the Taliban.

Kabul, Farzam Kazimi — Sangar. Sources have provided conflicting accounts of the location of the clash and the death of the resistance commander.

According to Afghan media reports citing Taliban representatives, Mirwais, a commander of the National Resistance Front of Afghanistan (NRF), was killed in a battle with Taliban forces in the Andarab Valley.

Sources speaking to Sangar reported that Commander Mirwais was killed in the early morning of October 18, 2026, in an ambush set by the Taliban in Paryan district of Panjshir province.

“This is a rather unusual area in the highlands of the Hindu Kush, and it is not entirely clear which district or province it belongs to,” a Sangar source said.

The Andarab Valley in Baghlan province borders the Poranda Valley and Paryan district in Panjshir province.

Describing the circumstances of the incident, a Sangar source said that two individuals who had previously been in contact with Mirwais approached him again. They were reportedly enemy infiltrators who expressed their desire to join his forces.

“He trusted them and disclosed his location, after which the Taliban dispatched a substantial force to capture him. When the resistance fighters realized what was actually happening, some managed to withdraw from the area, but Mirwais and his companions were caught in the ambush,” the Sangar source explained.

According to the sources, Commander Mirwais was also the nephew of Saleh Mohammad Registani, the commander-in-chief of the military headquarters of the National Resistance Front of Afghanistan. The Taliban apparently carried out a targeted operation to eliminate a relative of the NRF's newly appointed military commander.

Saleh Mohammad Registani, a senior commander of the National Resistance Front, announced his return to Afghanistan to continue fighting the Taliban regime following the death of Commander Hasib Panjshiri in a battle with Taliban forces. He released several videos filmed in a mountainous area, emphasizing that he was in the Hindu Kush mountains.

Commander Mirwais, also a member of the National Resistance Front's command structure, had previously posted a video on social media announcing his presence in the Hindu Kush mountains to confront the Taliban.

Recently, various anti-Taliban resistance fronts have intensified their activities across several Afghan provinces. In particular, numerous reports have emerged of armed clashes between the Afghanistan Freedom Front (AFF) and Taliban forces.

Numerous videos released by the Afghanistan Freedom Front, led by General Yasin Zia, the former Chief of the General Staff of the Afghan National Army, appear to confirm the presence of the front's fighters in Nuristan and Badakhshan provinces.

The National Resistance Front of Afghanistan has not yet issued an official statement regarding the death of its commander.

The National Resistance Front of Afghanistan is led by Ahmad Massoud.
