Why the Taliban did not accept their famous admirer?

Author: Dr. Fazlmanullah Mumtaz, former spokesman of the Islamic Party of Afghanistan

Zalmay Khalilzad and his intellectual circle always created public opinion for the implementation of their peace plan with the Taliban, according to which this Taliban is not the Taliban of yesterday. Khalilzad, an engineer of war and peace in Afghanistan with 45 years of experience, successfully implemented his staff plan.

It is not Khalilzad's fault because he was an obedient officer and did his duty with great wisdom and intelligence, but he deceived the simple-minded politicians of Afghanistan like Abdullah, Amrullah Saleh, and others so that they have not woken up yet.

Khalilzad deceived not only the Afghan politicians but also all the people of the country. At that time I have repeatedly said in my interviews and articles that the Taliban's red lines are already clear and precise and there will be no change in them.

At that time and even after the events, some for-life incompetent and ignorant politicians like Hekmatyar expressed one-sided love for the Taliban, issued fatwas in favor of the Taliban, and delivered Friday prayer sermons dedicated to supporting the Taliban and against its opponents.

And he saw these events as a very important opportunity for himself, since his political rival, Jamiati Islami (Islamic Society), was isolated from the political and military scene. He even offered military assistance to the Taliban to beat up Jamiati Islami.

Hekmatyar foolishly thought that he could attract the attention of the Taliban and Pakistan with his good deeds, but Hekmatyar's one-sided love was not accepted by the Taliban. Instead of a reward, Hekmatyar was punished: he is under house arrest, and all his party and organizational activities were frozen.

Some people thought that since the Taliban and Hekmatyar have much in common, the Pakistanis could recommend Hekmatyar to the Taliban. Therefore, the Taliban will be safe, and even Hekmatyar relied on this theory, but those who know the Taliban understand that first of all, they punish the real one before the absent one.

In my opinion, the Taliban have much in common with Hekmatyar, but there are also important differences, namely that Hekmatyar is an ethnic rival of the Taliban. Hekmatyar was involved in conflicts during the jihad against the Soviet Union, especially with the mawlavis and mullahs of Kandahar, Helmand, and other provinces, while the Taliban are a product of the same mawlavis, whose conflict has a long history.

Therefore, the possibility of mutual understanding between Jamiat and the Taliban is possible, but between Hekmatyar and the Taliban, it is impossible. As a result, Hekmatyar's one-sided love turned into disappointment.
